As the North East prepares to welcome some three million visitors to the region for England’s biggest event of the year, the Great North Exhibition, regional brewery and tap, Tyne Bank Brewery has created an unmissable experience for locals and visitors alike.

Founder, Julia Austin, who raised some £250,000 in just six weeks to fulfil her ambition of opening a venue where patrons could enjoy a pint brewed on-site, has revamped the offer to attract a new audience this summer.

“First of all, we’ve created our own take on a beer garden, making use of the extensive outdoor space the brewery has,” commented Julia. The team have transformed a humble car park into an urban-retreat, serving up food and snacks from local street-food vendors, including the likes of Fat Hippo, Cubanos and Mandala Express.

“Newcastle has a thriving independent scene; our aim is to bring foodies, artists, creatives and makers to the tap room each month to create events that draw a crowd of curious folk who are willing to try something new.”

Tyne Bank Brewery events over the summer include:

Food Friday every Friday evening until September; a rotating selection of ‘in-residence’ street-food vendors serving up tasty treats to accompany Tyne Bank Brewery’s award-winning beers.

Sounds of the Tyne; a relaxed evening of contemporary folk music hosted by Kathryn Tickell on Thursday 28 June from 7pm

A Baby Social event on Saturday 7 July; play mats, toys and tasty healthy treats for the little ones and coffee, cake and beer for the grown-ups. Try Tyne Bank’s own brewed Crème Caramel (5.7%), for the ultimate cake/beer combo!

Julia, and her team, have also put together a refreshing summer menu of beers to complement the sunshine and keep your taste-buds tingling!

Summer Breeze is a zesty 3.9% brew infused with lemongrass and ginger, perfect over ice for a long, lazy summer evening.

Not to mention, and back by popular demand for tennis season, Strawberries and Cream. Says Julia: “Strawberries and cream is one of my favourite beers and we’ve brought it back this year after getting such a fantastic response to it last year. It’s extra-special because it includes lactose, which gives it a creamy, luxurious taste, alongside the strawberries. Strawberries and Cream always goes down a storm for summer, and now it can be enjoyed in our urban-garden!”

Also, on the menu, is the 4.4% Rhubarb & Custard, a refreshing twist on the classic British summer pudding. Says Julia: “We love experimenting with fruit in our beers and creating new brews with flavour combinations people know and love but may never have tried in a beer before.”

With Julia at the helm and master-brewer, Alan Dunlop, overseeing the brewing process, visitors to the north east are in for a treat this summer.
