Roddy Doyle comes to Durham Book Festival for the first time to talk about his impressive career and to introduce his brand new novel Smile. This captivating book has all the features for which he has become famous: razor-sharp dialogue, humour, superb evocation of childhood – but this is a novel unlike any he has written before, exploring themes including memory, sexuality and religion. Roddy Doyle is the author of eleven acclaimed novels, seven children’s books and two collections of short stories.

One of the country’s oldest literary festivals, Durham Book Festival returns from 7 to 15 October with events held in a host of iconic venues including the historic Durham Town Hall, Durham Cathedral and our own Gala Theatre. View the full festival line-up at www.durhambookfestival.com.
