Mary, the Mother of God, is celebrated throughout Christendom on this day, which constitutes a major feast in the Church’s calendar. Her selflessness is an example for Christian men and women across the world, and every evening of every day of the year we call this to mind by reciting her own words at Evensong or Evening Prayer – the ‘Magnificat’.
