If you’re not already familiar with the intoxicating world of Blue Rose Code, then prepare to be blown away when he comes to The Witham on 21st July!
In the space of just a couple of years Ross Wilson’s musical project has gone from being just him working in obscurity in an East London flat to producing two stellar albums that have been praised by the industry and fans alike. BBC Radio 3 broadcaster Mary-Anne Kennedy even recently said that “Blue Rose Code is one of those rare artists whose work makes you sit up and listen.”
Wilson’s latest album, ‘And Lo! The Bird Is On The Wing’ was written jointly between the Shetland Isle and rural Dorset, and recorded at Gran’s House Studio in the Scottish Borders. As well as Wilson himself, it feature some of Scotland’s finest jazz and folk musicians, Nashville gospel singers, The McCrary Sister, British music legend Danny Thompson and even acclaimed Hollywood actor Ewan McGregor!
Speaking of his new album, Wilson says: “It’s an album for music fans and musicians, a challenging record. I’m passionate about that fusion of folk and jazz and where it intersects with songwriting. Working with these musicians has been a game-changer. I may have cut my throat because there’s not really a single on here but, this is the album that I’ve written and it’s just as I wished it to be.”
But Wilson is also just as vital a performer in the live arena, with Edith Bowman personally asking him to perform at the launch of BBC At The Quay alongside Texas and Stornoway; she described his performance with a nine-piece band as “truly special and beautiful.”
This new UK tour has been previewed by a sold-out theatre show at 2016’s Celtic Connections, and is set to provide another spellbinding performance at The Witham.
