Tyne Theatre & Opera House in association with Whitley Bay Film Festival: THE CINEMA YEARS
We invite you to enjoy classic films related to the Stoll Picture Theatre over three action-packed days! Feature films will be accompanied with animation workshops, scintillating talks about film, dainty teas and an opportunity for those with memories of the Stoll to recall those days. We will also be presenting screenings of some of the first films shown at the establishment, including archive material and a range of exhibits.

Dr Andrew Shail is a Senior Lecturer in Film at Newcastle University, specialising in filmmaking and film viewing in Europe and North America during the early twentieth century. Andrew will take audiences back to the 1910s, when even the oldest cinemas had been around for less than a decade, when the UK was at the height of its first love affair with cinema, and when the Tyne Theatre reincarnated itself as the Stoll Picture Theatre.
Archive Footage will be playing in the Bistro and Coffee Lounge throughout the day. (No tickets required)
