A giant, walking, roaring Jurassic monster is making its way to South Tyneside for a dinosaur day during half term.
On Sunday 28 October, REX, an eight ft tall, 12ft long animatronic Tyrannosaurus Rex will roar his way to The Word, National Centre for the Written Word, South Shields.
The spectacular creature will be interacting with visitors at various times throughout the day – and posing for selfies with anyone brave enough to get up close to him.
And, along with the chance to see REX, children and their families will be able to take part in a wide range of dino-themed activities, from storytelling to arts and crafts.
There will be a special photo booth – to capture snaps of youngsters with dinosaurs -and the chance to learn all about fossils and even make one to take home for a small charge.
Budding artists can enter a design your own dinosaur competition and, at 12.30pm and 2.30pm, visitors can settle down to listen to dinosaur-themed stories and explore a library of books on the subject.
The venue is also holding two, 45 min long interactive Dino Shows – at 11am and 1pm – when children can become dino-rangers in a quest to beat Dr Extinction.
“This is an incredible opportunity to find out just what it must have been like when dinosaurs liked REX roamed the Earth” said Tania Robinson, Head of Marketing and Culture at The Word, National Centre for the Written Word.
“He is absolutely huge – but visitors needn’t be too alarmed as he is actually very friendly – and loves having his photograph taken.”
The Dinosaur day is free to attend and will take place between 10am and 4pm. REX will be posing for photos between11.45am and 12.30pm, 1.45pm and 2.30pm and 3pm and 3.30pm.
