PREVIEW: Aladdin @ The Gala Theatre

Posted on November 25th 2019 by Whats on Northeast

Streetwise young Aladdin is trying to make his town rich, by marrying a Princess. But evil baddie Abanazar is after gold and riches and world domination. Police Chief Tai Chi is hot on their heels, and even daft laundry lad Wishee Washee, bumbles himself into the Police Force. We take in China, Egypt and Sacriston…. there’s a bunch of mummies, a Genie, and in the middle of it all is crazy Widow Twanky just trying to get the wash clean!

Created in the heart of Durham, Gala’s fabulous family panto has a magical mix of mayhem, live music, laughter and surprises. It just wouldn’t be Christmas without Gala’s panto family. Tickets are already selling fast, so book early to avoid disappointment.

As well as having BSL performances on Sunday 8 December, 1.00pm and Thursday 2 January, 1.00pm and a relaxed performance on Wednesday 27 November, 1.30pm, we’re delighted to introduce a captioned performance for the first time on Thursday 2 January, 1.00pm.

A relaxed performance is designed to welcome audiences who might otherwise feel excluded from experiencing live theatre, including those with autistic spectrum condition, learning disability or sensory and communication disorder.

Theatre staff have been trained to create a friendly setting and assist with any additional needs that people may have. The production aims to create a less formal environment where the audience can move around or talk if they need to. Although the show remains very similar, lighting, sound and special effects are adapted to reduce anxiety and a chill out space is available for anyone who feels they would like to take a break.

The relaxed performance is 27 November at 1.30pm.
