PREVIEW: Tyne Valley Film Festival

Tyne Valley Film Festival is a community programmed film festival. This year we have 30 screenings across 14 unique venues in the Tyne Valley. We are a true celebration of cinema, bringing the magic of film to more people in the Tyne Valley.

After launching the festival in 2019, Forum Cinema Hexham are proud to present the second Tyne Valley Film Festival, a community programmed film festival which will bring together rural film clubs, venues and community organisations for a celebration of film.

Between 19-29 March, 30 screenings will take place across 14 unique venues with a truly diverse range of films spanning the entire history of cinema, from pre-sound classics to contemporary foreign language releases, and everything in between.

The Motorcycle Diaries – Allendale Village Hall – 19 March – Tickets on the door

Allendale Film Club present a screening of The Motorcycle Diaries, which recounts the 1952 expedition across South America by a young Enersto “Che” Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado.

QEHS Short Films – Forum Cinema Hexham – 21 March – FREE TICKETS

Join us for a free screening of a selection of short films made by A-Level students from Queen Elizabeth High School.

Alice Guy-Blaché:

On Mother’s Day, we’re shining the light on the Mother of cinema and first female filmmaker, Alice Guy-Blaché, with a documentary which investigates the full scope of the life and work, followed by some of her short films.

Narrated by Jodie Foster, Be Natural is a documentary investigating the full scope of the life and work of cinema’s first female director, screenwriter, producer, and studio owner Alice Guy-Blaché.

Screening of a selection of her short films from 1912-1916 including: Falling Leaves (1912), The Little Rangers (1912), Matrimony’s Speed Limit (1913), and The Ocean Waif (1916).

2040 – Queen’s Hall Arts Centre – 24 March – TICKETS

Director Damon Gameau embarks on a personal journey to explore what the future could look like by the year 2040 if we embraced the best solutions already available to us to improve our planet and shifted them rapidly into the mainstream.

Talk by Lt Fergus Holland RN & South Screening – Tarset Village Hall – 25 March – Tickets on the door

Lt Fergus Holland RN joins Tarset First Thursday Film Club to talk about his experience of life in the 21st century Royal Navy, followed by a screening of South (1919), the film record of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s heroic but ill-starred attempt to cross Antarctica in 1914-16.

Millions – Forum Books, Corbridge – 27 March – TICKETS

In collaboration with Corbridge Film Nights, Forum Books present a screening of Danny Boyle’s heart-achingly funny and brilliantly clever adaptation of children’s author Frank Cottrell-Boyce’s Carnegie Medal-winning book by the same name. Kids go FREE!

T Dan Smith – Forum Cinema Hexham – 28 March – TICKETS

AmberSide Film Collective present a screening of their 1987 experimental film which explores the scandal centred on the one-time Newcastle Council Leader, T Dan Smith.

Tyne Valley Film Festival is supported by Forum Cinema Hexham and Northumberland County Council, and is part of Great Northumberland’s Winter Festival 2020.
