And the good news is that Lumley Castle, at Chester-le-Street near Durham, has not just confined playing Cupid to one night – but has extended its offers so they are available on four dates.
The 14th century castle, which is a four-star hotel and retains many of its original features, is the perfect setting for romance and for couples who want to make the day memorable.
Its Valentine’s Overnight Package will run from 11 to 14 Feb and includes overnight accommodation, a five-course dinner including canapés and a glass of Prosecco on arrival and a full English breakfast the following day.
Guests who decide to stay will find a box of Lumley Castle chocolates in their room on arrival, plus a bouquet of 12 red roses and a Mr Lumley – the hotel’s own bespoke teddy bear.
For anyone who doesn’t want an overnight stay but still sees the castle as the perfect backdrop for romance, there’s the option to enjoy the Valentine Cabaret Dinner, which will also run from 11 – 14 Feb.
The event includes a welcome glass of Prosecco and canapés followed by a five-course dinner and entertainment and a disco.
Anyone wanting to make it a more intimate occasion can also enjoy a five-course meal in the recently refurbished Knights Restaurant, which includes Prosecco and canapés and is available at £69 per person.
The overnight package costs £295 per couple while the cabaret dinner is £89 per person. Bookings can be made via the website at www.lumleycastle.com or by calling the hotel direct on 0191 389 1111.
But the romance doesn’t end there.
The hotel is offering anyone planning to propose on the night the opportunity to let them know in advance and if they get a “yes” the couple will receive a bottle of champagne – and the promise of a 10 per cent discount should they choose to hold their wedding at Lumley.
Gordon Cartwright, General Manager at the hotel, hopes it will be a very popular option.
“There’s nowhere more romantic than a historic castle to really enjoy the spirit of Valentine’s Day and we believe we’ve pulled out all the stops to give couples the option of some really special experiences,” he said.
“It’s the perfect opportunity to let someone know they are loved in a unique setting so we’re very confident we’ll be in for a very busy time.”
