Today (April 29) Sunderland BID has launched its citywide Platinum Jubilee Creative Challenge, where the best pieces will form part of a special art display which will be held across two sites – Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens and Pigment and Toil Art Gallery at the Bridges.
The competition is open to six age groups – up to four years old, five to nine year-olds, ten to 13, 14 to 16, 16 to 18 year-olds and 19+.
The exhibition is to be called Queen Elizabeth II From All Angles, giving would-be artists dramatic licence to create anything that reflects the Queen over the past 70 years.
The competition opens today and entrants can submit their work – which needs to be A4 size – by 5pm on Monday 16 May.
The work can be photographed and emailed to info@sunderlandbid.co.uk with Queen Elizabeth II From All Angles in the subject line or can be dropped at the Pigment and Toil Gallery or posted to Sunderland BID, 8 Foyle Street, Sunderland, SR1 1LB.
The winning pieces will be included in the large scale exhibition which will go on display from Friday 27 May.
Sharon Appleby, Chief Executive of Sunderland BID, believes this is a great opportunity for people from across the city to get involved in a historic event.
“The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee really is a once in a lifetime occasion and it’s something that everyone will remember for generations to come,” said Sharon.
“We would love for children and adults to contribute their own vision of the Queen from across the decades and this gives everyone a real opportunity to showcase their artistic skills.
“We can’t wait to see what everyone comes up with so we can put together an exhibition which will really honour this very special event.”
