The craft of traditional leatherwork was practised for centuries throughout the whole of Britain. It provided many livelihoods, with diverse applications in areas such as saddlery and horse harness, footwear and apparel, bags and cases, books, drinking vessels and numerous others; it permeated all walks of life. With the drive towards increased industrialisation and mass production in the late 19th-century these skills began to fall into decline. Today, however, the revival in the market for traditional, hand crafted goods has seen a resurgence in the practice of traditional skills. Andy Bates is one of very few teachers of Creative Leathercraft and was shortlisted for the National Craft Skills Award for Training in 2013.All workshops are suitable for beginners.
