In 1884, the New Museum of Natural History opened in Newcastle. In 1891 it became the Hancock Museum, and you now know it as the Great North Museum: Hancock.
We’re going back to 1884 for a day of Victorian festive cheer – what a perfect way to get in the mood for Christmas with your family.
Newcastle University Wind Band will play in the magical atmosphere of the Living Planet gallery, and John Hancock himself will be on hand to switch on the Christmas tree lights.
Kids can make a Christmas lantern to take home too. John Hancock and Victorian characters are portrayed by re-enactors from the Time Bandits.
