The dark side of street lighting: the importance of moths as pollinators, and the effects of artificial light at night.

Callum’s work has received a great deal of media interest recently. He will show evidence that moths are important pollinators and give some background on the effects of artificial light on moths and other species, including humans.

He will talk about his research showing how street lights can affect moths and pollination including some discussion of what we can do to reduce the impacts of street lights.

Callum Macgregor is in the final stages of completing his PhD in the School of Biology at Newcastle University. Last summer he gave a media commentary on the moths landing on Christiano Ronaldo in the European Cup football final.
