Led by artist Ruth Sheldon, this three-part creative workshop series will explore interconnections between art and science, drawing inspiration from the zoological and botanical collections at the Great North Museum. All materials are included and beginners are welcome.
Saturday 11 March
Botanical drawing
Visit the library at the Great North Museum to draw inspiration from botanical illustrations, examine plant specimens through a microscope and create a still life drawing from plants. Finish this session with a watercolour painting of a plant of your choice.
Saturday 18 March
Microscopic cells and macro-perspective drawing
In this session, get a close-up look at cells using microscopes and make your own microscopic slides to create magnified macro drawings inspired by human biology.
Saturday 25 March
Science-inspired abstract painting on canvas
In the final workshop session, create an abstract painting on canvas based on a view through the lens, using science as inspiration.
