Mozart – Requiem and Solemn Vespers K399

Mozart’s Requiem is one of the most famous choral works ever written.  It is a deep, emotional and complex work composed by Mozart on his death bed in 1791.  Mozart struggled and failed to complete the work, only the first few bars of the Lacrimosa were finished.  It is known that Mozart played through and discussed the music with his pupil Süßmayr before he died who took it upon himself to complete the work.

The Solemn Vespers (Vesperae solennes de confessore) K399 is a sacred work composed by Mozart eleven years earlier in 1780.  It is the final piece of music written by Mozart for performance in Salzburg cathedral before his departure for Vienna.  The Vespers are a concise work for four part choir, soloists and orchestra.
