Gateshead Beer & Music Festival first started off in 2010 with the emphasis on creating a great local community festival. Moving forward seven years the festival has grown into an event that is loved both locally and nationally, whilst maintaining its community beliefs. In 2016 the festival was delighted to be named as a Finalist in the Tyne & Wear Lifestyle Awards for Best Live Experience.
The festival organisers pride themselves on striving to improve the festival year on year, this year there are no exceptions with the introduction of the Malt Whiskey Bar, the new and improved Cider Bar, the addition of premium lagers and a new food area.
Once again the festival has a great selection of Ales & Ciders that are sourced countrywide; however, they always ensure that they provide a great springboard for local brewers to showcase their products. In addition to the popular Cava bar, it will see the return of the Gin filled Jam Jar Bar.
As always, there will be 3 days of great music and headlining this year are Soul Street on the Saturday and The Shakes on Sunday. The mOObs are back following their electric performance at last year’s festival, and this year sees them back on the Friday performing on the same bill as the legendary Revolutionaires who will tear through a set off jumpin’ hot rhythm & blues!
The line-up has something for everyone… highlights include a set from The Caffreys, a band once labelled the “Geordie Eagles” and recent finalists in BBC TV’s “Britain’s best part-time band”. Chloe Chadwick, whom was recently nominated for `Best UK Female country Artist & best UK act’ in the UK country radio awards 2016, will be featuring. There’s also a fantastic trio of tribute acts: AntMusic, 10cclo and the Acoustic Beatles (recently recorded at Abbey Road) recreating some amazing music. Groovetrain will be bringing the sounds of stax and soultrain with a fantastic line-up which includes British Blues & Souls awards finalists.
Sunday starts with traditional Andean panpipe music from APU who hail from Peru followed by the Strictly Smokin’ big band. There will also be performances from The Maverick Rejects, Phil David’s good times band, Carly Mckee Duo, Flipside, Juke Joint Blues, Silver Skiffle and many, many more.
The Gateshead Beer and Music Festival opens at 12pm and closes at 11pm on Friday, April 28th and Saturday, April 29th; and it opens at 12pm and closes at 10:30pm om Sunday, April 30th.
