Russian State Opera presents: The premiere of Tosca – A dramatic masterpiece where love, politics and murder takes place at the highest level.
Music by G.Puccini
Libretto by G.Giacosa and L.Illica
Sung in Italian with English Surtitles
Featuring an impressive cast and accompanied by a large live Orchestra with over 30 musicians
Tosca is set in Rome in 1800, a very unsettling time for the Italians due to political shift. Tosca, the beautiful singer and Cavaradossi’s lover is tricked by Scarpia to go to Cavaradossi’s house so Scarpia’s minors can follow her there. Scarpia soon learns that the police cannot find Angelotti (one of the republicans who has escaped prison) but have arrested Cavaradossi. For Cavaradossi to speak Scarpia tortures Tosca…
Tosca presents some of the most iconic Operas of all times. There are three famous arias: Recondita armonia (Hidden harmony), Vissi d’arte, vissi d’amore (I live for art, I lived for love) and E lucevan le stele (And the stars shone).
The duet of Tosca and Scarpia is the most powerful and breathtaking scene: a gripping and unforgettable experience.
If you’ve never tried opera before, you will love this full orchestra experience with fantastic colourful costumes, exquisite singing and those wonderful tunes that the audience will still be humming to themselves on their way home, making this a must-see opera production for everyone.
