Tuesday 21 February – Stitch and sew a Shabti Doll
The Ancient Egyptians believed that after death, the body and soul would travel on to the afterlife. It was important to take all the things they would need with them for their new life, including servants! These servants were in the form of dolls called Shabtis and were placed in the tomb with the mummy. Ideally there would be 365 of them, one for every day of the year!
Come and make your own Shabti and decide which jobs it will do for you.
Our family workshops are an ideal activity as a starting point or supporting contribution for completing a Discover in a Day Arts Award. Arts Award booklets are sold in the gift shop for £6 and includes the moderation fee. Support is available from our learning team on the day.
