If you’re not sure what to get up to next week, we’ve got seven events to fill out your seven days! Make sure you put these dates in your diary…
Monday 26th June
Dirty Dancing @ Sunderland Empire
With a heart-pounding soundtrack and sensational dancing, one of the 80s best-loved films is back on stage! Dirty Dancing follows the story of Baby and Johnny, two fierce young spirits from very different worlds who come together one summer and open each other’s eyes to a whole new world. Featuring 35 hit songs, including ‘Hungry Eyes,’ ‘Hey Baby’ and ‘Do You Love Me?’, you’ll have the time of your life!
Tuesday 27th June
You Can’t Define the Normal @ Queen’s Hall Arts Centre, Hexham
Students past and present from the Queen Elizabeth High School Art Department have come together for this exhibition at Queen’s Hall Arts Centre and if you haven’t seen it yet then hurry! It’s only sticking around until 2nd July. There’s a huge variety of work on show, from detailed sketches to more complex plastic structures and projected photographs, which all push the boundaries of what student art work could, and should, be. Prepare to have your eyes opened.
Wednesday 28th June
Declaration @ Bishop Auckland Town Hall
Sarah is instinctive, curious, bold and bouncy, but she’s also a bit of a square peg in a round hole, never quite sure how to fit in. Developed with The Lowry and touring in association with Oldham Library and the ADHD foundation, Declaration is a show about needing and wanting to declare our differences and the many faces we wear to fit in. Mixing autobiographical comedy, storytelling and conversation with the audience, it’s a daring adventure that examines ADHD, identity and more. If you can’t catch it at Bishop Auckland Town Hall, don’t worry! There’s another chance to catch it at Arts Centre Washington on 29th June.
Thursday 29th June
Let It Glow @ Life Science Centre
Have you seen the Life Science Centre’s latest Theatre show yet? No? You’d best hurry then, because Let It Glow is set to flicker out on 2nd July, so there’s only a few days left to catch it! The science explainers will still be on hand for a short while longer to help you explore the wonderful world of light, covering everything from sparkles to twinkles, lamps to lights, in the spectacular, engaging show. It’ll be an illuminating experience!
Friday 30th June
Patsy Cline and Friends @ Phoenix Theatre, Blyth
Sue Lowry is a lifelong fan of Patsy Cline, the velvet voice of country and a record-breaking artist who spent a whopping 251 weeks in the USA’s County Music Album Chart. But when you see on Sue on stage, it’ll be like Patsy herself was on stage and, as the show’s title suggests, she’ll also be joined by a bunch of recognisable friends! Marc Robinson – perhaps best known for playing Buddy Holly – will be taking the role of Hank Williams, while Lee Davidge will be paying a sensitive tribute to Jim Reeves. Get ready for a rip-roaring night of country ballads!
Saturday 1st July
The Ultimate Plunge @ Lightwater Valley
Are you brave enough to take on the Ultimate Plunge? The UK Bungee Club are headed to Lightwater Valley to once again offer a terrifying 160ft bungee jump for the ages! Adrenaline junkies only need to apply for this one, and if you’re in for a full day of blood-pumping action then you can book to take the jump and check out the rest of the park for just £50 (that’s a saving of 40% on the usual cost!) Don’t worry if you’re not quite up to the challenge though; there’s plenty on offer around the theme park to keep anyone satisfied!
Sunday 2nd July

You’ll also be able to meet recommended suppliers, view the function spaces and even get some complimentary canapes and Prosecco on arrival.
